Apo' on the Wall

I liked Apo' on the wall because it has an unconventional approach in poem writing. Other than that, it also depicts experiences of people during the Martial Law days. The writer may not be particularly a child but i like the way that the poem exhibits innocence and curiosity althroughout.
It doesn't use strong words but made an intense impact on me. It made me imagine how his father and his office looks like. It also made me realize how it felt like to sneak into that dignified room. It emphasizes how devoted his father is to Apo' and how the child developed the same attitude towards him. Martial law which may have various implication to each Filipino, will always be like that. It is refreshing to have a different perspective to it than the usual opposing reaction from journalists, and politicians and other adults that have fully experienced the time of Martial Law.
Since this poem painted the picture of the Martial Law era, it has reminded me the importance of looking at the past and applying what the lessons of the past in the present. The past is in the past but it must be looked back in order to have a better present – to avoid another mistake and to repeat the victories of the past.
